Mini Roos Carnival Photo

MiniRoos football is a modified form of 11-a-side football, structured to suitably address the needs of young players who have different developmental characteristics. The philosophy of MiniRoos focuses on enjoyment and freedom of expression. This benifits children by making their early contact with the game more enjoyable while simultaneously providing an enviroment that will facilitate greater skill development.

MiniRoos allows participants, playing on smaller fields and with small numbers to interact with the ball on more occasions and make less complicated tactical decisions. The result for participants is more fun (more successful interactions) and better skill/technique development.

Football Brisbane has introduced a 'hub system', which is tailored to suit the needs of individual players by providing the most suitable level for a player to participate. The three-tiered system (Geckos, Goannas and Komodo Dragons) provides a positive enviroment for players of all abilities by enabling children to play with and against other children of simular abilities, which fosters enjoyment as well as development.

Children develop at different rates and this process provides a development pathway by catering for the differing abilities or players whilst still focusing on fun and participation. The following is an explanation of the three different hubs.

Geckos - Players in the team are of minimal skill or are new to the sport and need time to learn the rules and develop skills and teamwork.

Goannas - Players in the team have average skills, have played the sport previously and as such know the rules and how to play as a team and can engage in matches with minimal instruction from their coach.

Komodo - Players in the team have average to above average skills and have played for a number of years. Matches are usually played with speed, skills and tactics. This level is ideally suited for players that aspire for such challenges and possess the requisite abilities.

U9, U10 and U11 Development Teams

We will be identifying players to participate in the development teams within each of the U9, U10 and U11 age groups, which will compete in the Komodo Dragons hubs. The selection of these squads will follow a simular path to the grading process adopted for the divisional age groups.

Visit our registration page for information about the costs involved and how to register.

Players exhibiting the trials as outlined above (Komodo Dragons) are encouraged to attend the development squad trials.

Each of the U8-U11 Komodo Dragons teams are required to train twice a week and firm commitment to this is highly encouraged, as well as sign up for the academy program. Information can be found about our Soccer Fusion Academy. All players are able to join the academy regardless of ability. We will have academy groups for advance players and development groups for players who are in need of the basics.

Mini-Roos Field Days:
These days are designed to assist our team composition process. We will be using the field days as a guide to establish teams which will be as even as possible (particularly for our in-house competition) and to identify the best possible team composition to aid the development of players throughout the season. The field days are not designed to assess the individual ability or skill level of the players and there should be no added pressure placed on the children to 'achieve' a certain playing status.

Friendship Groups:
One of the most important aspects of team selections at Logan Lightning in the past has been for players to be grouped with their friends (particularly in the early years) where possible. This philosophy will continue and will be complimented by the processes outlined above. We acknowledge the importance of players having an enjoyable and rewarding experience and we will do our best to accommodate player/parent requests where possible. Request will not be considered for the Komodo Dragons.
